The Sanctuary - 2023 Gala
Dear Valued Supporters,
The Sanctuary’s Soiree Gala was set to deliver a high-calibre signature fundraising event with special guests Tracey Spicer AM & Jelena Dokic, hosted at the gorgeous Pavilion at Springfield House. Our team has worked hard over 9 months to pull together an event that would deliver a sublime guest experience.
However, we find ourselves in unchartered and unprecedented waters. Sadly, at a time when the demand for services like The Sanctuary is critically high, the not-for-profit sector is experiencing an accelerated decline in support, due to the post-COVID global economic downturn and a looming global recession.
With cost-of-living pressures deeply affecting all Australian households, the support across the not-for-profit sector that we have always been fortunate to rely upon has significantly decreased. We found ourselves in an unexpected position where, rather than raise money from our Gala event, we risked making a loss. And so, in order to ensure that we can keep our Sanctuary doors open, our Board has come to the difficult decision that due to the decline in anticipated ticket sales, the event is simply not viable at this point in time. So, the decision has been made to cancel, and navigate any and all contingencies, as best we are able.
Since we opened our doors in 2016, almost 700 women and children across our community have been supported to live in safety. This is an extraordinary outcome, and only made possible through our dedicated community of supporters. All donations to The Sanctuary helps us to continue our important work providing crisis accommodation and support to vulnerable women and children escaping domestic violence and homelessness.
